Ryanair cabin crew staff in Spain have announced multiple strikes for September after the airline reportedly confirmed closure of two bases in the Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
The dates are scheduled for: 1st, 2nd, 6th, 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd, 27th and 28th September and will affect flights coming in to and leaving Corvera airport. Union representatives fear the closure of the bases in January 2020 will entail the loss of hundreds of jobs and so do not support the closures in any way. While Ryanair have yet to confirm the closures it is reported that the delayed delivery of Boeing 737 aircraft alongside higher fuel costs and higher staffing costs have contributed to enforced cost-cutting measures and closures.
Ryanair would continue to fly into the Canary Islands but it could potentially also result in fewer services.
A third closure in Girona has yet to be confirmed.
