A recent report has suggested that Iberia Airlines could potentially offer future flights to Madrid from Murcia Region de Murcia International (Corvera) Airport. Iberia Airlines are said to be carrying out a viability study on the possibility of setting up flights between Barajas Airport in Madrid and Corvera Airport. Further details of the arrangement have yet to be discussed, but more details are expected to emerge as Iberia Airlines continues to progress with their assessment.
The viability study has come as a result of Aena and the regional government of Murcia’s ongoing efforts to promote the airport following its official opening day just over a week ago. The president of Iberia, Luis Gallego met with Fernando López Miras at Fitur earlier this month and was reported to react positively to the possibility of Iberia flights between Murcia and Madrid.
Fitur, also known as the Annual International Tourism Fair, is recognised as one of the most important tourism fairs in the world. The five day event attracts members of the public and business professionals from all over the world, with over 300 meetings held by tourism authorities. Fitur is also celebrating its biggest ever year, with over 886 stand holder exhibitors and over 10,487 companies in attendance from 165 countries across the world.
Corvera Airport and the regional government of Murcia have continued their efforts to grow and promote the airport since it was opened by King Felipe VI of Spain on the 15th of January this year. Volotea for example have already confirmed that they will be offering flights to and from the northern Spanish region of Asturias this Summer.
