Mariana Menor, the general manager of Corvera airport recently gave an interview with La Verdad, a regional newspaper. In it, he commented on the airport itself and discussed future plans for continuing to improve Corvera airport and to add new flight routes. Menor also commented that he was optimistic about the performance of the airport, commented that 2019 will end with a total number of over one million passengers. He also stated that he anticipates “pleasant surprises in the scheduling for the summer of 2020.”

Discussing the recent news regarding passenger numbers at Corvera Airport, Menor added that there are currently more flights at Corvera airport than there would have been at San Javier if it remained open. He also noted that the current passenger numbers are higher than had been forecast. Menor also commented that although the figures at this stage are 10% lower than last year at San Javier airport, they are 10% higher than the figures predicted by Aena- the management company of Corvera airport.

Continuing to look towards the future, Menor added that he was optimistic that a new route between Corvera and Barcelona will be established soon. This follows the recent news that Binter Canarias S.A have announced a new route from Corvera to Gran Canaria. Based in Spain, Binter Canarias are a regional air carrier offering inter-island services with the Canary Islands as well other Atlantic islands. The airline have also recently announced that they will be operating four weekly flights between Corvera airport and the Canary Islands.

The minister for Tourism in the new regional government of Murcia has also praised the new plans. They are reported to have been optimistic about the new flights and believe that they will provide a boost for tourism in the Costa Cálida.
